Shenanigan was founded in 2015 in Amsterdam. The label started as a close collaboration between a conscious fashion designer, a group of Human Geography students, the team of tailor Tahirou Sané and the Silent Work Foundation. All the Shenanigan products are proudly made in Toubacouta, Senegal.
Made in Senegal
The items are produced in Senegal by the team of tailor Tahirou. At special occasions, like the championship of the local football team, Tahirou designs the most elegant dresses and suits. Besides an excellent designer and tailor, he is also known as the best board game player in Toubacouta! Tahirou also educates local youth as tailors. Currently he learns Youssouiha and Noëlle all the techniques of the job. Youssouiha’s wants to become a word famous tailor. His big dreams is to see Rihanna performing in one of his designs. Maybe in a Shenanigan?
Profit?
That would be nice! Think about what we would do with all that money! But moneywise we are not so succesfull. We are trying to even out our expenses and we rely on volunteer contributions for a large part. But our profit is:
- connecting with all kinds of people
- providing honest labour for a hearing-impaired community
- having fun trying to build up a positive impact brand
- putting on Shenanigans ourselves and so putting on smiles on faces everywhere
- spreading colour all around
Why Foundation Silent Work?
Just like Shenanigan, the Silent Work Foundation firmly believes that every person, regardless of their nationality, orientation or other kind of background, has the right to develop their own talents. Therefore the Silent Work Foundation aims to give hearing-impaired worldwide an opportunity to build an independent life and to become part of the society. In this way Tahirou has been able to open his studio in Toubacouta. Makes sense that Shenanigan is a fan, right? That is why Shenanigan is glad to work together with the team of Tahirou and why the label donates one euro per sold product to the foundation.
